Muroran-shi Ski Area – Overview
Like many other place names in Hokkaido, the name Muroran is believed to have Aino origins meaning, a gentle sloping place. Muroran is the city name, too. It is an industrial city located about 1.5 to 2 hours by train from Sapporo.
Guess what! That is the ski area lives up to its name, too! It consists of just one rope tow and an open field to ski. Max elevation is just 471m with a base at 393m making a total vertical of just 78m.
Ski Season Length & Hours of Operation
This ski area runs from about mid December to mid March. The ski area appears to open from 1000hrs. Always best to call ahead to check if it is open if you are skiing early or late in the season.
Rentals
Muroran-shi Ski Area offers ski and snowboard equipment rentals along with ski wear up to 5L (that is a Japanese 5L). Lessons are offered but I would guess only in Japanese.
Lift Tickets
Lift tickets are cheap. For a one day ticket it is Yen 2,000 (2024/2025 ski season). Seniors 60 or over ski for Yen 1,200 per day. You can also opt just to buy a ticket for a single lift up.
Is there Night Skiing?
Yes, there is night skiing running up to 2100hrs or 2200hrs (the site is conflicting about times).
Where to Eat?
There is one cafeteria. It serves ramen, soba, tempura, udon and a lot of side menus.
